The Haramain High Speed Rail project also known as the “Western Railway” or “Mecca-Medina high speed railway”, is a 453.0 kilometers high-speed inter-city rail transport system in Saudi Arabia which links the Muslim holy cities of Medina and Mecca via King Abdullah Economic City, Rabigh, Jeddah, and King Abdulaziz International Airport.
Challenge
The vast stretch of deserts and rugged mountains dictate the harsh climatic conditions which prevail throughout the region. The temperature in Saudi Arabia can rise up to 55° C and drop to 8° C in a day, and desert storms often occurs in these regions.
